10 “Rejoice with Jerusalem,
And be glad with her, all you who love her;
Rejoice for joy with her, all you who mourn for her;
11 That you may feed and be satisfied
With the consolation of her bosom,
That you may drink deeply and be delighted
With the abundance of her glory.”

12 For thus says the Lord:

“Behold, (A)I will extend peace to her like a river,
And the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing stream.
Then you shall (B)feed;
On her sides shall you be (C)carried,
And be dandled on her knees.
13 As one whom his mother comforts,
So I will (D)comfort you;
And you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.”

The Reign and Indignation of God

14 When you see this, your heart shall rejoice,
And (E)your bones shall flourish like grass;
The hand of the Lord shall be known to His servants,
And His indignation to His enemies.
15 (F)For behold, the Lord will come with fire
And with His chariots, like a whirlwind,
To render His anger with fury,
And His rebuke with flames of fire.
16 For by fire and by (G)His sword
The Lord will judge all flesh;
And the slain of the Lord shall be (H)many.

17 “Those(I) who sanctify themselves and purify themselves,
To go to the gardens
[a]After an idol in the midst,
Eating swine’s flesh and the abomination and the mouse,
Shall [b]be consumed together,” says the Lord.

18 “For I know their works and their (J)thoughts. It shall be that I will (K)gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come and see My glory. 19 (L)I will set a sign among them; and those among them who escape I will send to the nations: to Tarshish and [c]Pul and Lud, who draw the bow, and Tubal and Javan, to the coastlands afar off who have not heard My fame nor seen My glory. (M)And they shall declare My glory among the Gentiles. 20 Then they shall (N)bring all your brethren (O)for an offering to the Lord out of all nations, on horses and in chariots and in litters, on mules and on camels, to My holy mountain Jerusalem,” says the Lord, “as the children of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house of the Lord. 21 And I will also take some of them for (P)priests and Levites,” says the Lord.

22 “For as (Q)the new heavens and the new earth
Which I will make shall remain before Me,” says the Lord,
“So shall your descendants and your name remain.
23 And (R)it shall come to pass
That from one New Moon to another,
And from one Sabbath to another,
(S)All flesh shall come to worship before Me,” says the Lord.

24 “And they shall go forth and look
Upon the corpses of the men
Who have transgressed against Me.
For their (T)worm does not die,
And their fire is not quenched.
They shall be an abhorrence to all flesh.”

Jesus Begins His Galilean Ministry(A)

12 (B)Now when Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, He departed to Galilee. 13 And leaving Nazareth, He came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the regions of Zebulun and Naphtali, 14 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying:

15 “The(C) land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali,
By the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan,
Galilee of the Gentiles:
16 (D)The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light,
And upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death
Light has dawned.”

17 (E)From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, (F)“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven [a]is at hand.”

Four Fishermen Called as Disciples(G)

18 (H)And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon (I)called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. 19 Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and (J)I will make you fishers of men.” 20 (K)They immediately left their nets and followed Him.

21 (L)Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. He called them, 22 and immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.

Jesus Heals a Great Multitude(M)

23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, (N)teaching in their synagogues, preaching (O)the gospel of the kingdom, (P)and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people. 24 Then [b]His fame went throughout all Syria; and they (Q)brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them. 25 (R)Great multitudes followed Him—from Galilee, and from [c]Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and beyond the Jordan.

The Beatitudes(S)

And seeing the multitudes, (T)He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. Then He opened His mouth and (U)taught them, saying:

“Blessed(V) are the poor in spirit,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
(W)Blessed are those who mourn,
For they shall be comforted.
(X)Blessed are the meek,
For (Y)they shall inherit the [d]earth.
Blessed are those who (Z)hunger and thirst for righteousness,
(AA)For they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
(AB)For they shall obtain mercy.
(AC)Blessed are the pure in heart,
For (AD)they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
For they shall be called sons of God.
10 (AE)Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 (AF)Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of (AG)evil against you falsely for My sake. 12 (AH)Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for (AI)so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Believers Are Salt and Light(AJ)

13 “You are the salt of the earth; (AK)but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.

14 (AL)“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they (AM)light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, (AN)that they may see your good works and (AO)glorify your Father in heaven.

The Gentiles Bless Zion

60 Arise, (A)shine;
For your light has come!
And (B)the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.
For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth,
And deep darkness the people;
But the Lord will arise over you,
And His glory will be seen upon you.
The (C)Gentiles shall come to your light,
And kings to the brightness of your rising.

“Lift(D) up your eyes all around, and see:
They all gather together, (E)they come to you;
Your sons shall come from afar,
And your daughters shall be nursed at your side.
Then you shall see and become radiant,
And your heart shall swell with joy;
Because (F)the abundance of the sea shall be turned to you,
The wealth of the Gentiles shall come to you.
The multitude of camels shall cover your land,
The dromedaries of Midian and (G)Ephah;
All those from (H)Sheba shall come;
They shall bring (I)gold and incense,
And they shall proclaim the praises of the Lord.
All the flocks of (J)Kedar shall be gathered together to you,
The rams of Nebaioth shall minister to you;
They shall ascend with (K)acceptance on My altar,
And (L)I will glorify the house of My glory.

Now I say that (A)Jesus Christ has become a [a]servant to the circumcision for the truth of God, (B)to confirm the promises made to the fathers, and (C)that the Gentiles might glorify God for His mercy, as it is written:

(D)“For this reason I will confess to You among the Gentiles,
And sing to Your name.”

10 And again he says:

(E)“Rejoice, O Gentiles, with His people!”

11 And again:

(F)“Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles!
Laud Him, all you peoples!”

12 And again, Isaiah says:

(G)“There shall be a root of Jesse;
And He who shall rise to reign over the Gentiles,
In Him the Gentiles shall hope.”

13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all (H)joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

From Jerusalem to Illyricum

14 Now (I)I myself am confident concerning you, my brethren, that you also are full of goodness, (J)filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish [b]one another. 15 Nevertheless, brethren, I have written more boldly to you on some points, as reminding you, (K)because of the grace given to me by God, 16 that (L)I might be a minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the (M)offering [c]of the Gentiles might be acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit. 17 Therefore I have reason to glory in Christ Jesus (N)in the things which pertain to God. 18 For I will not dare to speak of any of those things (O)which Christ has not accomplished through me, in word and deed, (P)to make the Gentiles obedient— 19 (Q)in mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God, so that from Jerusalem and round about to Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ. 20 And so I have made it my aim to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, (R)lest I should build on another man’s foundation, 21 but as it is written:

(S)“To whom He was not announced, they shall see;
And those who have not heard shall understand.”
